Awareness Post - Urs Fischer

Urs Fischer is a Swiss sculptor and painter, currently working in New York. His work includes a wide variety of materials and themes. Fischer's art is typically characterized by its unpredictable, humorous, and dreamlike appearances, often referencing historical art movements like Pop, Surrealism, and Dadaism. He often blurs the line between reality and the surreal, to "disorient and bewilder" the viewer.

Education: Fischer studied at the Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich, Switzerland where he enrolled in the school's photography department after his first year.

I really like Fischer's use of juxtaposition as a way to place emphasis on the components of each piece, because the stark contrast between the different subjects of the first two images contributes to the effectiveness of the work. Looking at Fischer's work, I also appreciate the variation in theme and media he uses while still maintaining some continuity between bodies of work. The three images above are all quite different, but still all have only two real subjects overlapping with each other and fine details that bring everything to life.
