I was really impressed with the work at the Visarts center but I was surprised how repetitive the subject matter was. As we discussed, there was no non-objective art displayed or submitted, but almost all of the drawings and paintings were of people. While drawing people is really difficult, I think that the lack of other subjects suggests a lack of creativity in high school art. My favorite painting was titled "Oppenheimer" and I thought it was especially impressive because it differed from the other art in the exhibition. The use of only three colors and the sharp lines created are really striking and appealing. I also really liked Caroline's self portrait because of how well she shaded her jacket. I think the white used really lights up the piece and makes it pop. I really enjoyed visiting the exhibition!
